Ecclestone Reclaims Spot in England's Lineup for India T20Is

The England women's cricket team is set to welcome back Sophie Ecclestone into their fold for the highly anticipated five-match T20I home series against India, commencing on June 28. The squad, consisting of 14 members, sees Ecclestone's return after a break from the sport earlier this month, which caused her to miss the recent white-ball series against the West Indies. Her inclusion comes at the expense of legspinner Sarah Glenn, who will miss out on this occasion.

Former captain Heather Knight is also sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during a T20I match against the West Indies last month. Lauran Filer steps in to fill her shoes. The remainder of the squad mirrors the T20I lineup that faced the West Indies in the previous month.

The England T20I Squad is as follows:

  • Em Arlott
  • Tammy Beaumont
  • Lauren Bell
  • Alice Capsey
  • Charlie Dean
  • Sophia Dunkley
  • Sophie Ecclestone
  • Lauren Filer
  • Amy Jones
  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (c)
  • Paige Scholfield
  • Linsey Smith
  • Danni Wyatt-Hodge
  • Issy Wong

Head coach Charlotte Edwards expressed her excitement regarding Ecclestone's return and emphasized the importance of the five-match series against India as preparation for the upcoming home T20 World Cup next year.

"We're really looking forward to taking on India. They're one of the best sides in the world and it'll be a huge test for us," Edwards stated. "Five games against India in front of big crowds at great venues will serve us really well. This is a significant series for us with the countdown well and truly underway towards the home ICC Women's T20 World Cup."

Edwards further added, "It's great to have Soph back, and we're looking forward to having her back in the group. She has obvious qualities and she'll be an asset to us. It does mean Sarah Glenn misses out, we are blessed with a strong group of spinners and we unfortunately can't play them all."

The squad for the three-match ODI series is yet to be revealed.
